Deployment of a dense network of broadband and short-period seismometers in La Palma (2023-2024) (IMAGMASEIS)
Abstract:
We deployed a dense network of 35 broadband and 200 short-period seismometers in La Palma, Spain, during 2023-2024 to investigate the internal structure of the island using passive seismic methods, with a special emphasis in the Cumbre Vieja area where the 2021 eruption took place. Broadband instruments were Trillium Compact 120 s, five of them Posthole; short-period instruments were Sensors Nederland PE-6B 4.5 Hz; and acquisition systems were mostly Datacube3 dataloggers, and three Centaur. The broadband network operated from September 2023 to October 2024. The short-period instruments operated from February to October 2024, in different configurations. Instruments were provided by the GFZ GIPP pool (20 broadband, 200 geophones, 230 dataloggers) and University of Granada (15 broadband, 5 dataloggers). All activities were supported by project IMAGMASEIS (Imaging the magmatic plumbing system of Cumbre Vieja volcano using passive seismic methods) supported by Grant PID2021-124381NB-C21 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by "ERDF A way of making Europe".
