Info for users of GE.NPW data

On March 28, 2025 there were gaps in data from the station at Naypyitaw (NPW) caused by the extreme ground motion there, which disrupted data transmission. The missing data were later recovered after the connection was re-established by local colleagues. Metadata has also been reviewed and all users are requested to use the latest metadata updated on 3 April. (See our previous post.)

Given the extraordinary efforts made by the local colleagues in Naypyitaw to keep the station operational and the exceptional value of these data in scientific publications, we would like to ask all users of GE.NPW data to include a special acknowledgement, in addition to the usual recommended use of the DOI for the GEOFON Seismic Network.

We suggest that the following sentence (or similar) be added to the acknowledgments or next to figures produced with these data:

“We are very grateful to the local operators of the NPW seismic station at the Seismological Division of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) in Naypyitaw for keeping the station running under extremely difficult conditions during the devastating M7.7 earthquake in Myanmar on March 28, 2025.”
